Hi! I’m Jem,
From the moment I picked up the guitar at age 12 the music world exploded for me - especially when I first learned how each chord progression or riff could strike an emotion, just from playing some different notes!
Skip along to age 16 where I was well into recording electric guitar solos, and my college had a small music studio. I was micing up (very badly) drum kits and guitar amps, trying to capture the emotion and artistry from my fellow students, but it all seemed like a dark art, nothing I recorded sounded anything like the records I loved …
Now skip along 12 years to the ripe old age of 28 … a Bachelor’s & Master’s degree down the line and 100s of happy artists recorded, it’s safe to say that I figured it out!
However I was never into using other people’s samples. I loved to see the individual and unique talents that each artist brings to their own music.
It’s GREAT to have inspiration and influences from your favorite artists. Even to use elements of their songs to make your own. But I want to bring out YOUR sound. YOUR era of music. No copy and paste generic samples or beats.
